Innovation Specialist

Summary:

Igniteur - the Atikokan-based Youth Social Enterprise Project is an entrepreneurial focused opportunity centered on value-added wood products. Chosen youth candidates will establish a viable business model, prototype, produce product, develope a website, market and sell their products. Coached by the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre, and the Atikokan Economic Development Corporation, skilled trades person this is a great opportunity for youth who are thinking about starting their own business, and/or would like to gain valuable woodworking/manufacturing skills.

Job Description:

The chosen candidates will learn all aspects of starting-up a business:

  • market research and business planning
  • product development and prototyping
  • production including use of equipment and techniques for wood product manufacturing
  • marketing - including website, e-commerce, social media, direct sales
  • operations and financial management

The person will work as part of a small team (4 people) with ongoing training,  coaching and mentorship.  The program offers excellent hands-on experience and numerous connections for future career opportunities.

While each youth participant will receive the same general training and coaching, as the year progresses, youth may consider specializing in certain specific roles within the start-up business.

Leadership training will be also be provided. No experience necessary.

Youth Eligibility:

  • Between the age of 18-29 (this is a government funded youth program)
  • Located in Northwestern Ontario
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability to work Full-Time

Contract length: 12 months

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Wage Rate: $20 per hour
