The Reputation Economy: How to optimize your digital footprint in a world where your reputation is your most valuable asset

Michael Fertik (2015)

What does your reputation say about you? Would you show your Facebook page or Twitter feed to a client, boss, or even your mother? The Reputation Economy treats a person’s reputation as a form of currency. A wealth of reputation can be built upon the choices you may or may not realize you are making on a daily basis. Some debate the level of “paranoia” embedded in this book and the reader should certainly keep an open mind and judge for themselves. That being said, this is an interesting read for anyone who is even remotely engaged in digital activities (whether as part of their professional or personal lives). While it may sound like a conspiracy theory, the ability of data analysis to predict specific outcomes and probabilities goes beyond what you can find from doing a Google search for your own name.

Whatever you put online is bound to become public, published and permanent no matter how stringent you are with privacy settings. So think first, post second.  The Reputation Economy is available now at the Thunder Bay Public Library.
