What does this mean for NWO? Unfortunately, we must make a lot of assumptions given the sparse details, but hopefully it means greater access to high quality, potentially lower cost, employees for our tech companies. This should reduce the ‘musical chairs’ we sometimes see among the regional tech talent as they change employers. I also hope that we can retain more international graduate students from Confederation College and Lakehead University. Lastly, hopefully NOIC can lean-in to those “collaborations with tech communities and provinces.” Too often, programs that are designed for all of Canada/Ontario eliminate most of the businesses in our region due to onerous eligibility requirements.
