My Love Hate

My Love Hate Relationship with Blogging

I will admit it, I don’t like to blog. But then again, who really does? With a million things to do in a day, blogs always seem to end up on the bottom of my list … and I like it that way. It’s not that I don’t recognize the benefits of blogging; as a matter of fact I have even preached them to others. Blogs engage your customers, increase SEO, build thought leadership, are a great cost effective means of content marketing, and so on and so on, blah blah blah. I get it.

That being said, this year I am trying to make a dedicated effort to blog (this may have something to do with being forced to by my boss, but that’s beside the point).  Being able to blog is great from a business perspective, but the ability to get your point across in print is also a valuable life skill. Blogging skills, like any other improve with practice, so practice I shall.

I think my struggle with blogging comes from the fact that in the past the majority of my writing was academic, and therefore formal. I can agonize over comma placement for far too long, and a panic washes over me when I think about my writing being actually read, and therefore judged by members of the general public. I think this is probably a common feeling for a lot of people out there, but of course it’s easier to blame my lack of blogs on a lack of time.

I think the easiest way to start back at blogging is to keep it short and sweet, so with that said I would like to challenge anyone out there reading to take up the blogging challenge with me. We can do it!

** It has been brought to my attention that I should set a goal ( I was trying to avoid that),  to hold myself acccountable. I'm going to be realistic here and say one blog every two months. Baby steps.
