A More Beautiful Question

Warren Berger (2014)

When you pose a question, you open up a world of possibility. Some questions lead to straightforward answers while others lead to game changing innovation. Those game changing questions are not the vague variety (e.g what is the meaning of life?); they are questions that lead to more questions, action and new ideas. A More Beautiful Question originally began as a blog by Warren Berger and has since expanded into this book and a full website of the same name.

The book itself is structured around questions, naturally. From one question to another, the reader is guided and prodded along to rethink the way they think. The five chapters cover a range of topics such as The Power of Inquiry, Why We Stop Questioning, The Why, What If, and How of Important Questioning, Questioning in Business, and Questioning in Life. One of my favorite questions posed in a sidebar (page 163) is What if a bookstore could be like summer camp? – makes me wonder what that could mean for a public library in comparison...

Instead of the traditional index of topics, this book wraps up with two indexes: an index of questions and an index of questioners. You may find the question you are looking for in these pages, available now at the Thunder Bay Public Library.
