Scalling Up Excellence: Getting to More Without Selling for Less

Robert Sutton & Huggy Rao (2014)

Girl Guides, General Electric and Facebook have something in common...the ability to revitalize the way in which they operate as the organization grows. Scaling Up Excellence reveals how the best leaders and teams develop, spread, and instill the right mindsets in their people — rather than ruining or watering down the very things that have fueled success in the past. They unpack principles that help to cascade excellence throughout an organization and build organizations where people feel “I own the place and the place owns me”. The authors go on to show how to eliminate destructive beliefs and behaviors to clear the way for excellence to spread. This book has been seven years in the making and resulted from many conversations and exchanges focused on one (seemingly simple) question – how to spread the “pockets of excellence” that exist in every organization throughout the rest of the team and/or working environment. The flip side of this question is how to encourage each staff members’ individuality and work style. This is not the type of book you can just pick up and put down on a leisurely basis. However, it does provide solid practices and tools for your business to continue to grow.
