Broadband & Cellular Fill-in Projects
The NWO Innovation Centre has been championing regional projects that address the gaps in high-speed internet connectivity and cellular coverage in Northwestern Ontario. With the support of private sector partners, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and FedNor, five projects have been funded. We feel it is important to continue to address the gaps in connectivity because of the impact on; safety, quality of life, and economic diversification and sustainability. The projects include:
- West Ring Fibre Upgrade and Expansion Project - $6,265,000 project with partners - Bell Alliant, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and FedNor. COMPLETE
- Red Lake – Highway 105 Corridor Project (Broadband and Cellular) - $2,335,000 project with partners TBay Tel, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and FedNor - COMPLETE
- Highway 61 and English River Project (Broadband and Cellular) - $1,725,000 project with partners TBay Tel, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and FedNor
- Armstrong and Greenstone Broadband Project - $840,000 project with partners Bell Alliant, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and FedNor - COMPLETE
- Greenstone and Hwy 527 Cellular Project - $2,452,500 project with partners TBay Tel and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund
- Highway 17 Corridor Project (Broadband and Cellular) - $6,310,000 project with partners TBay Tel, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and FedNor
