The Hatchery is a program of the NWO Innovation Centre that works to support small and medium-sized businesses as well as new entrepreneurs as they pursue innovative growth opportunities. The Hatchery provides customized support during the process of developing an opportunity. Whether a referral to the right resource, financial support, research and information or sound advice and expertise, the end result is to support businesses as they grow and diversify.
Hatchery Program Components:
Step 1 – Initial Meeting
Step 2 – Early stage Advisory Support (specific to each opportunity)
- Preliminary Market, Technical, Intellectual Property Assessment
- Advice on next steps
- Linkages to other resources
Step 3 – Qualification for Enhanced Support
- Review to determine viability for innovation/commercialization assistance (Step 4).
- Involvement of other support mechanisms in this review.
Step 4 – Innovation/Commercialization Assistance
Provision of support which could include:
- Early-stage financial support
- Technical support (engineering, prototype development, testing...)
- Market Research assistance
- Business plan development
- Advisory Team facilitation
Step 5 – Decision to Go to Full Development
- Business case will then be evaluated to determine specifics for full development.
- Proponent will make the “go or no go” decision.
- Recommendations on appropriate structure and development planning will occur during this step.
- Additional capital from Angel Investors, government programs and financial institutions might be required at this stage.
Step 6 – Ongoing Support as the Project moves through the Development Process
The NWO Innovation Centre is committed to working with clients as they successfully implement their plans. This support is usually provided through the Innovator Members Program.\
